Unregretted Minutes: Create More Impact from Your Efforts

“Lost time is never found again.” — Benjamin Franklin

Traditional Productivity Methods Are Rigid

As a business owner for 14+ years, I’ve learned the hard way that most productivity methods fall short in accommodating the unpredictable nature of our days.

Our energy, motivation, and focus can be inconsistent, and interruptions are too common. I needed a more organic method that allows me to reassess my priorities and concentrate on tasks that create a meaningful impact.

Over the years, I’ve tried various productivity strategies, each with its limitations:

  • To-do lists: They blur the lines between must-do, should-do, and like-to-do tasks, creating an overwhelming and unrealistic list of items to complete.
  • Time blocking: This approach can be too rigid, preventing adaptability when priorities change.
  • Task batching: While this method can improve efficiency, it doesn’t necessarily help focus on the most impactful tasks.

I craved a more flexible approach that would align with the natural fluctuations in human energy and focus.

Unregretted Minutes

Unregretted Minutes is a way to ensure you use your time wisely, so you don’t feel like you’ve wasted any of it.

Imagine your day is like a big box of LEGO bricks. Each brick represents something you can do, like working on a project, attending a meeting, or spending time with your family. Instead of randomly grabbing bricks and building something that doesn’t make sense, Unregretted Minutes helps you choose the right bricks and build something that you’re proud of.

Here’s how it works:

  • Know your best times: Figure out when you have the most energy and focus, like after a good night’s sleep or a short break.
  • Have a plan: Before doing something, think about why it’s important and how it helps you reach your goals, like growing your business or maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
  • Be flexible: Sometimes things change, and that’s okay. Just take a step back, look at your LEGO creation, and rearrange the bricks to make it even better.
  • Focus on the important stuff: Choose the bricks that will help you build the most effective and meaningful creations instead of just piling up random pieces.

This can lead to:

Prioritise tasks that have a real impact. Focus on impactful tasks will create a sense of fulfilment and purpose. Embrace an approach will allow you to adjust your plan and priorities.

Embrace Organic Planning

  • Must-Do Tasks: Prioritise planning and executing tasks essential for moving the needle forward.
  • Saying No: Learn to say no to yourself unless you have compelling reasons to take on a task.
  • Reassess Priorities: Review and adjust your plan to align with your desired outcomes.

Apply Unregretted Minutes

  1. Discover Your Personal Rhythms: Monitor your energy and focus levels for a week to identify your “peak” times.
  2. Align Tasks with Your Rhythms: Schedule your most important tasks during peak times.
  3. Set Mindful Intentions: Before starting a task, set a clear intention, and ensure it’s aligned with your desired outcomes.
  4. Embrace Organic Planning: Review and adjust your plan to maintain focus on tasks that create impact.

By applying the Unregretted Minutes approach, you’ll gain a better return on your time, have a realistic approach to planning and focus on actions that make a genuine difference.
